High Impact Executive Coaching for a leading FMCG Organisation
What the client wanted
The brief was to co-design and deliver, with Cranfield School of Management, a challenging experience for existing leaders in one of the world’s leading FMCG organisations. The participants were engaged on a five-day leadership programme – sponsored and co-led by the organisation’s president and CPO – that aimed to help them break through to the next level of leadership. Our one-day intervention needed to be designed to dovetail into an existing programme framework. And we had five days to do it!
What we did
The overall programme took the participants (already at Director level) through an intensive leadership journey, where they explored their aspirations and challenges in becoming senior leaders (moving up to Country Manager and equivalent). Jointly with Cranfield, we designed a small group high-impact role-play experience in which the leaders took ownership of the content and learning focus for their individual engagement. Each participant worked closely with an Impromptu role-player and their designated executive coach to create and shape their personal challenge.
The role-players, all highly experienced at working in this way with senior executives, took on roles as senior leaders, peers and strategic partners in meeting contexts where the participants needed to make a breakthrough in their leadership behaviour. Working in action learning sets, of three participants, a role player and executive coach a dynamic was achieved within the role-play experience of high support and challenge, ensuring optimal engagement and learning. Feedback from role-player and peers combined with insights provided by the executive coaches to deepen the participants’ understanding of their strengths and challenges in relation to taking their leadership to the next level.
The outcomes
The participants were able to take their personal learning and insights they had already gained about their strengths and development opportunities as potential senior leaders and work these through in a very real and practical way. The anticipated outcomes for the organisation are emerging senior leaders who not only recognise the opportunities and challenges ahead, but who are now equipped with meaningful strategies to realise their potential.
